First Entry: Welcome to sunny Solis Headlands! I think this will be my final stop on my search. The hot springs on Ashbreath Shore have a unique quality to them. Think it'll make for good brewing. I want to find somethin different then what I find everywhere around here. Make mine stand out a bit. Make it special. I found a nice place near by this closed down Tavern, Inn? Not sure... it's real big, might have been an Inn. There were a few old lookin farms around too. We're not far off from Mahadevi's jungle, so the land is actually pretty good. Grains will grow well! helps that the house has some planters on the lower level. I'll set up my brew lab there! Raijin isn't really fond of the heat here. Think he misses the snowy mountains. Poor guy. We'll ride into town and find a stable and a well he can rest at till I get one built.
Second Entry: I ran into, er, nearly over a lil green haired Harani guy, girl? No, guy. He was a guy, yes. He was strugglin with a bucket from the well nearly as big as he was! Needed to water his Elk I guessed. Raijin needed a waterin too, bein he's not accustomed to the heat here yet. So I grabbed myself a bucket, and grabbed his for him too. He was real nice, bit quiet though. Found out, he's the author of one of the books I read! A real scholar that one! Goes by Wanderer. He was there with an interesting, but terse Harani lady named Kora. Raijin Liked her, so she's good in my book. She was scolding a poor Warborn fella for not asking for help. North Light is what he goes by. Turns out, he was trying to find a job, I pointed him toward the hot springs nearby.
Third Entry: Began a quest of sorts to visit taverns and pubs around the different regions to see what they offer and what folks' tastes are. Found a quaint lil spot in Mahadevi called the Jungle Nook. I liked it, it was snug but cozy! Met a Warborn lady who goes by Sturdy Wave, he was leavin in a huff cuz of what someone said, but was nice enough to me outside, we went back in together and she bought rounds of drinks for me and another firran lady I met. I forget her name... how rude of me! We never held coversation as my attention was drawn to another warborn going to sit outside, he seemed upset. I followed him to see what was the matter and of all persons, it was Mr North Light again! The hot springs employed him and he was working on restoring that old shut down tavern next door to me! I had been away traveling, researching and looking for clients to work with that I didn't scarcely notice! WELL! We got to talkin, and one thing led to another and now I am business partners with him it seems! I'll be supplying The Open Palm with my local specialties! Finally, a reason to brew more! I have some ideas, but I am going to cross over to Nuia, bein I know the language already, maybe get some use from the skills I got during.....that time.... for somethin good anyway.
Fourth Entry: Believe it or not, on my journey to Nuia to research their ales, ciders, and wines I ran into that lil green haired scholar again! I was not surprised he was so well traveled, but to run into him at that moment so far from home was interesting indeed! I also met a polite Nuian Named Frax... Fraxximus? Fraxxander? Fraxximillion? I can't recall, I'll stick with Frax for now. He was kind and asked about my research. We may cross paths again when that tavern Mr North Light was doing finally opens! Another Nuian, caught his name right at the end as Wanderer was sayin goodbye, Vrekka I think? Anyway, I invited him to the Palm and he didn't look so good all of a sudden. I needed to escort another lady, firran like me, home post haste, so I didn't get to make sure the guy was ok. Maybe he had too much to drink. I'm sure he's fine.
Fifth Entry: I've done it! I've finished the first batches of my various brews! The lemon shandy is refreshing and crisp! especially when poured into a chilled glass... I've figured out a spell I can cast on the kegs to keep them cold over a long period of time. The spell does deteriorate after about a week, but a popular bar shouldn't need to refresh the spell before the ale runs out! I can chill bottles with it too! The bottles stay cold longer, maybe because they are smaller? I'll need to do more research on it, to see if volume does indeed affect the length and power of the spell.
Sixth Entry: brought the first shipment over to the palm! oh boy, was it busy! My recipes were well received! Sturdy Wave helped me unload my baskets, I guess she works there now? Miss Kora is the owner, I thought Mr North Light was the owner.... maybe she's like the face, and Mr North Light actually runs it because too many Harani are narrow minded and refuse to accept that warborn, like us firran, are capable people deserving of respect and equality? It makes me a little mad, but having met Miss Kora, I think her hearts in the right place for helpin him out like that. Or maybe she really does own it and he works for her for real? Well, Raijin likes her so it's good in my book! OH, while out at the palm, I did meet an unsavory firran male... He used the hereafter in an unusual way that looked an awful lot like the magics used by.... that guy from back then. I had hoped to leave all that really far behind me, but I guess you gotta face your past eventually right? I just hoped it'd be a bit longer first. I sent Miss Kora a letter asking about him. We'll see what she says. He seemed to know her and Mr North Light, if he's friends with them, maybe I judged him too soon? Then again, guys who use THAT kind of tainted magic are not usually good news... and I'm not lettin that happen to me again! I also don't wish any of that on these new friends I've made. I'm finally rebuilding a life here, I don't wanna let one of those tainted magic folks destroy this one too! Maybe one day I'll be able to actually write that word again, or say it.... I'm not ready for that yet.
Seventh Entry: No reply for Miss Kora, I'll look for her later. My new recipe is distilling now, I can't wait to see how it comes out. I think I'll call it Ashbreath, in honor of the coast here.
Eighth Entry: Miss Kora finally replied! Glad to know she's right as rain! She says that strange Firran is a user of the forbidden death magics, a necromancer as they call them in the lowlands. This does not sit well with me and I reckon that explains the pain I experienced around my ward markings. I had the displeasure of runnin into him again at the palm... the ward did somethin I never saw it do afore. Thing glowed dang bright closer he got. Same color his magic glows when he uses it. I was told it would react to a death magic user, so I been careful, but this time I was caught off guard somethin fierce! Mr Wanderer saw it, I think it shook him as much it did me! I think he felt relieved when I explained what it was.... I worry I'm gonna have to face up to my past and confide in him about it if that Kuyo fella is gonna keep commin round. I don't wanna put anyone through what I did again, can't trust myself if somethin happens to them markings. He seems like he knows a thing or two about magic himself, so maybe Mr Wanderer is the fella to talk to...
Ninth Entry : Wow, I've been busy! It's been a long time since I've written. I think I've mostly figured out how to keep my tattoo from gettin all, with the glowing and the headaches? I came up with a new potion that actually works! I did find right quick that it aint effective if theys actually usin the magics, but they can be nearby with out so much pain. I call that a win! I dunno if this stuff has any negative effects, I reckon I'm gonna find out the consequences down the line, but for now? it works. That's all that matters if that Kuyo fella is gonna be around. I've noticed some other folk I've met also make the headaches happen, I'm right concerned at all this death magic existin here in the lowlands.
In other news, I met an interesting fella named Grimjack, and he's quite the character! I'm gonna need to have some further correspondence with him. While over in Nuia, at a party I got a mysterious invite to, I ran into the lil green bean scholar again, he was with a very handsome Nuian, Good on that kid! I danced with a nice warborn lady, she was right proper graceful she was! I also met an elf, Mr Lysander, who claims to know the lil bean. He and I won some sorta fashion contest? I mean, he was real fancy! But me? all I did was wear my fancy pants and a shiny fancy hat I got. Guess that weird elf who picked me liked my hat? well, darn right he did. it's a good hat! oh, but that elf dun went and attacked his folks he was with... and ran off. real mysterious... actually hits a bit too close to home for me. I wonder if it was his choice or if he was bein controlled.
Another event of note was a fancy lantern thing haranyans do for the new year in villanelle! Miss Kora invited me along, and it were real pretty. Ran into the bean there... seems I see that boy everywhere these days. for growin up isolated, he sure gets around. then again, so do I.... we're not so different there I reckon, bein I grew up in an isolated cave village that hated outsiders. I never agreed with their point a view, but I guess that were my downfall weren't it?
at the end of that lantern thing, lil green bean took ill, and I wanted to help, but I couldn't. If I knew what was all in that medicine he takes, I prolly could make a more effective brew for him. Not everyone wants help I guess, They gotta fall on their own. After he left, I met a real nice lady named Hazel that want's my help! She says she's got this mysterious potion, from a lab that's all secret. I wanna see this lab but she said I can't. I told her to send me an owl to arrange a time for her to bring the potion to my lab. We'll analyze the lil bugger and figure out what's in it and how to make it. I guess it's for her sick dad? That's a nice of her to help him like that, so I wanna help too! Maybe that's why I'm still here after everything. maybe I can actually do some good? I'd like to help people, even ifin I can't truly atone, at least I'll know I did somethin right one time.
I reckon that's all for now.... I got some experimental mead to go cold crash.... so it don't over ferment and go bad.
