Archeage Lore Dump!

I’m not usually one who cares about spoilers so I personally have no issue in watching the single player storyline Wanderer was kind enough to share. However it recently occurred to me that those who did not want spoilers would miss out on a LOT of Lore tidbits regarding their races culture. So! I decided that I would take that info and put it here. There should be no spoilers and all the facts below are common knowledge to your race.

What is hard fact will be bolded and colored. The rest will just be speculation or connecting the dots on my part.


Please excuse any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. I wrote this for a forum, not to be graded by my English professor lol ^^.


THE EAST

Harani


The Harani are survivors pure and simple. If they can’t beat you now they will retreat until they can kick your ass later. They are strong activists on what is generally considered Low War. Low War is essentially the belief that you must win at all costs. Assassinations, trickery, cutting off supply lines, hiring outside help, murdering entire families just to lower the other side’s moral…that is ‘Low War’.

In short they aren’t against retreating for the sake of ‘fighting another day’. And that day could very well come years, even generations later. Blood feuds are likely a big thing amongst the Harani and this is supported by the Harani main storyline which I will do my best not to spoil. Essentially? If one of your family dies you try to kill the person who did it. And if that person is too strong than you take your pound of flesh from someone close to them.

Family is one of the Core Values of the Harani. Family is Big, it’s everything, which makes sense considering how harsh the environment is. Cultures that live in difficult environments tend to put a lot of focus on family to A) Create the strong sense of community needed to survive and B) create an effective, loyal fighting force against anyone who might try to take what little resources you have. Arranged marriages are likely common place to help build ties between different families as well as end expensive blood feuds.

Crime is commonplace amongst Harani culture. Some gangs even perform their crimes openly as they are so powerful and so entrenched in the games of Harani nobility that the guards are paid off to look the other way. This is likely more in the cities but it’s plain from the story line that gangs of all sorts are not only common place in Harani culture but supported to some extent. The nobles appear to use them regularly. Likely they are used for many reasons: Loyal bodyguards (as long as no one out pays them), taking money and asserting power over the poorer masses, assassinating enemies or even assassinating members of their own house which is probably punishable by death.

On a fun note some families might even see using these guys and not getting caught is the height of manipulation and something to be proud of. There are cultures that heavily support subtlety over honor and I could see some of the Harani being like this.


Some known gangs:
  • The Shadow hawks – on the decline and are thugs rumored to be in the pockets of High Harani nobility. The odds of your character being in the Shadow Hawks is low just so you know. However it is said that they have rival gangs who are as of yet unknown. If you wish to create your own gang with just as much or more power it probably wouldn’t be too much of a stretch.


The Harani seem to look down on the Firran to some extent but they don’t seem to all out hate them. Some of course do but they’re more seen as an idle curiosity than a true threat or issue. Barbaric natives who aren’t worth the effort to hate I would guess.


Firran

]All Firran partake in what is known as the Bejant Trials. A coming of Age ceremony it has been a part of Firran culture since ancient times. Passing the Bejant trials meant receiving each of the elements blessing as a true, adult warrior. Failing the trial is akin to spitting on its gift and the elements themselves. If you fail it is very, VERY rare to get another chance. I imagine this means you are either forever seen as a child in the eyes of your people. Some may even be exiled completely or exile themselves in shame.

Only a tribe’s Mahra could decide which of the Firran were ready to attempt the Bejant Trials. I imagine the Mahra is either the tribal leader, the spiritual leader, or both.

]Because of their nomadic nature the Firran hold the elements in high regard. Though they worship the wind as the ultimate god, all elements of nature are considered sacred-- even death. I believe this means they don’t acknowledge anyone other than elemental Gods. The god of love and so forth might not be seen as true gods. They also seem to worship the elements themselves more than the Gods behind them. So far Tahyan seems the only one they openly name.

Because of their reverence toward nature the practice of necromancy is considered the ultimate evil as it is seen as something that upsets the natural order of things. Despite its blasphemy there are Firran who practice it, much to the disgust of their people. Since there seem to be multiple tribes of Firran I could see a tribe that practices necromancy. However they are likely spat upon and openly hunted by the other tribes. Unless they practice in secret.

The Harani were the ones to introduce the Firran to necromancy. Yeah…just from the tone of the story it’s pretty clear the Firran are not at all fond of the Harani. They hate on them pretty hard. Though I can’t really blame them as there seems to be heavy prejudice on both sides.

To the Firran every life has purpose. Weapons are regularly blessed during necessary killings. Now this part is a little vague. I’m not sure if they mean they bless their weapons for all hunting or just when they have to kill another Firran. Possibly both.

Because of their dangerous life styles killing another Firran is strictly forbidden. Especially during the Bejant Trials.

Firran shamans can summon creatures called Mist Demons that could kill without leaving a trace. I imagine this isn’t common practice and potentially even taboo.

The Firran are native to the Eastern Continent, not Auroria like the other Races.

Important Relics and Places in the East:
  • Dragon Scale - symbolizes ones right to rule. Originating in Auroria it had been passed down from royal hands throughout the ages. It is a sign of legitimacy to the crown and a powerful relic. Though all know of its existence few have seen it in person.
  • The Eye of Day – is a lake revered for its perfect reflection of the sun, the source of fire and light. Allegedly this reflection can even be seen on cloudy days. The lake is a holy place for the Firran so I imagine not many Harani know how to get to it.
  • The Souleye – A Firran treasure, it can reveal anything touched by necromancy. Even practitioners would be unveiled, their forms twisted by their black magic’s in the many facets of the crystal. It’s roughly the size of a Firran head. The most elite Firran warriors dedicate themselves in guarding it. It’s possible that the Windwhips are in charge of guarding it but the story was kind of vague on that.

THE WEST


The Elves


Aranzeb, one of the Twelve heroes that ventured into the garden, was hailed as King of the Elves. When he died defending his people during their escape from Auroria, his soul dispersed into the hearts and minds of his people. They remembered his death and since of betrays as keenly as if it were their own, twisting their once pacifistic natures into something that thirsted for vengeance. The passing generations has diluted Aranzeb’s memories but the Elves still work as a warrior culture, determined to find vengeance for their king. Their very natures were twisted by Aranzeb. This is very likely the reason the Elves became such hermits. With every human reminding them of Gene they likely hid in the forest for their own safety as well as the safety of those around them. Originally at least. Now, 2000 years later I personally think the elders use it as a method of control.


Only the greatest of warriors can delve into Aranzeb’s memories like their ancestors before them.

There’s something called the Field of Honor in which ritualistic combat takes place. Humans have never been allowed onto this field. Death does not seem to be common place on the Field of Honor.

A High Council has ruled the Elves since Aranzeb’s time. They dealt with politics and law. The Eokad is a more recent invention, implemented since the Elves’ arrival on the new continent. The Eokad are all warriors and are dubbed priests. They shape Elvan culture and train with the ultimate purpose of slaying Kyrios and avenging Aranzeb’s memory. I imagine there’s a lot of conflict between these two groups in their struggle for power.

Ehnoir is the leader of the Eokad. He’s a bit of a black sheep and pushes for better relations between the Elves and the humans. There’s likely a lot of elves who don’t agree with their isolationist ways. However the story hinted that those who made contact with the humans without permission would be branded as traitors or something to that affect.

All Elves are warriors. They are a lot like Norse or Spartan culture in that respect. I imagine there are still writers and artists and farmers and the like however they are all expected to fight.

Very few Elves live to old age due to their desire to die in honorable combat. I /believe/ the oldest elf is roughly 400 years old but that is extremely rare.

No, no half elves have been mentioned. I’m not sure if it’s a possibility but if it is I highly doubt the elves would raise the child. Honestly they’d probably kill it considering their disdain for humans.

Potential Elf naming conventions: Aranzeb was born to the Ar clan. His father was named IrenmAR and his daughter was Aranzebia. It’s possible that Elves take on the name of their clan in the front or end of their name but I’ve heard no official news on this.


The Nuian

When the Nuian first arrived the land did everything to turn them away. Elemental specters of all natures attacked and made survival nearly impossible. One day a powerful archmage, Solzrean led an assault on the maze where the elementals ruled. He eventually took control from the spirits, causing the elemental specters to retreat. Solzrean then built a grand castle over the labyrinth, declaring that whoever conquered it would be king. This is what decided succession for a time.

However one day a young upstart shunned the labyrinth and took over territory the old fashioned way, dubbing his new kingdom two Crowns. Eventually he was assassinated. I believe this is the starting point of the Nuians.

The Nuian’s hold Nui in high reverence and some even make a choice to follow her to the hereafter.


While the elves look down on the humans for the lack of honor the humans seem sort of...whatever, about the elves. It's like the view the elves as that annoying roommate you never see. Creepy as hell but they don't interfere so, eh, they can live with it.

I’m afraid that’s where my info on the West Ends. There doesn’t seem to be as much lore out about them yet. Especially the Nuians which kind of bums me out. I do know SOME however which is written above. If I HAD to guess I imagine the Nuian’s would be the opposite of the Harani in almost every way. They would fight with honor and are less about survival. In fact survival probably isn’t all that important to them considering their views on death..


More info on the Gods.

The memories of every dead member of one of the Twelve Heroes can be re-lived by their race. That means every Firran can potentially remember Tahyan's life and Every Elf can remember Aranzeb's life. Humans have a lot more to pick from. Note I said Dead members of the Twelve Heroes. That means No one can remember Gene, Nui, Aranzebia, Kyprosa, Orchidna, or any other of the still living Gods. Also note that this is extremely Rare. And when I say rare I mean main character rare. Also those who do suffer from it also suffer confusion, nausea, extreme headaches and can sometimes confuse the heroes memories with their own. Some even go flat out nuts so there's that to consider if you choose to rp it.


  • Salphira, the One Goddess of Fire and Purification was once held in high respect in Harani culture. However lately her worship has been on a sharp decline, much to the frustration of her followers. I believe being termed ‘The One God or Goddess’ means that that God had not been assimilated into the Twelve Heroes and is still the same as they were since Auroria.
  • Melisara Livolla was one of the twelve heroes to venture into the Garden but she was NOT made a God. For some reason only a few were made Gods while the others were simply given stronger powers. Melisara was said to be the greatest assassin who ever lived and rumor has it she created a dagger that could kill anyone or anything with the simplest of strokes.
  • Tahyan Kahizit Is a weird case. The video clearly states he is seen as the God of the Winds and yet it also claims that he was not a True God like the others. That he instead was like Melisara and simply turned into an epic hero.
  • Aranzebia/Dahuta is the daughter of Aranzeb. Her mother is unknown.
  • Aranzeb is called the God of Magic in the Elvan video and was the last Elvan King.
