Please note this is all done purely from a Roleplayers perspective, and as i've roleplayerd in varius MMO's over 10 years I have some if not a lot of insight as to what's good and bad in mmo's with roleplay. Also this is all done from my personal opinion and using the facts of it's Alpha state.

(^-^)/

Positive's:

Character Creation: It has in my opinion fantastic facial character creation, that you can check out here!, you can place a scar on your face and even position and re-size it! Bliss! (But you can't customize your body)

Player Housing: It's a sandbox MMO', and has lots of space for you to place and build your own home, and decorate the inside yourself! Ranging from little marine houses in the sea, to 2 floor manors, there's even a really expensive yet cool castle like house design!

Costume's and Dye's: Yes, it has costume's following the recent trend of MMO's, (Admittedly all the female ones are rather skimpy, aheh), and you can even change your undergarments (for those naughty time roleplayers ;D). Also! It's got Dye's, yay! So it's easy to look the way you wanna look!

Interactable World: From the moment you launch the game one of the early things you'll notice is just how interactable the world is, within a minuet I found a log I could sit on, chairs I could sit on (dur), a tree to climb, windows that could be closed and candle's that could be lit. Fantastic for roleplay immersion!

No Megaservers!: Those of you from ESO or GW2 might have noticed just how big a kick in the roleplayers teeth a megaserver can be, so thankfully this game is server based, meaning us roleplayers can FIND eachother with ease, hallelujah!

Guild Insignia's: Another great touch is that you can upload an image of your own and use it for your ship or place it on your cloak, heck even put it in a picture frame in your house! Fantastic for guild logo's and add's a great personal feel to the game.

Cross-Faction RP possible: You can actually learn the other faction's language (at a price) and since their's neutral towns, this unlocks the possibility for cross-faction roleplay!

Ships!: Yay finally a game where you can roleplay out at sea, the ships in this game are fun to sail and the way the ocean is done is beyond amazing, it's easily the most stunning ocean i've seen in a game.

Sceenshots & Emotes: There's a rather large and lovely list of animated emotes to choose from and play with, combine that with the best screenshot taker i've seen in an MMO and you're in for a treat. They have a cinematic camera mode, meaning you have freedom of your camera to take a screenie from any angle and even blurr the background along with some other dinky features!

Stunning scenery: The game has some amazing scenery to explore, see for yourself with this video I made:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al6_SNkHdnk

Negative's:

No custom emotes: This is the biggest RP mood kill. You cannot make custom emotes (/e does so and so), so that's an obstacle. (That can be overcome)

No RP tagged server: We'll have to pull together and make a community agree'd server to roleplay on as they've said they won't be putting a ''RP'' tag next to any server.

Walking: The walk animation looks a tad derp imo.. it's like a powerwalk!

Any help and additions to this list is appreciated!:

from what i've experienced so far Omega server seems like a fun place to do some spur of the moment random rp in faction chat, last night we had a fun time discussing the priestess's and how they must be lonely being sent to middle of nowhere places to heal random stupid adventurers, this would also explain why they barely understand the native tongue(quests being in korean) and thus need memory ink to use when they learn to write or why they want a flower sometimes to help cheer them up(also why the priestess tahmoh hugged refused to let go lol)

If the community at launch is as fun and open to rp as omega seems to be then this game should be the game to play for roleplaying :)

Another crippling negative is the obscenely small text box of only 160 characters >.< I'm learning to cope but it is difficult ;~;

That said, so it's not all negative, another huge positive is the ability to actually be the character you intend to play. Your character is a pirate? By all means, it's totally possible! A bounty hunter? Possible! Just a humble farmer? Also possible! You can align your character's IC story and RP with actual roleplayable actions and mechanics within the game. (Is roleplayable a word?).

Hah indeed, I think this is actually the first MMO that the game mechanics can truly benefit your roleplay in! xD

Very short list of negatives. :D In Aion, we still were able to make it work despite having no /e, and somehow the Elyos players were able to cope with their silly run animation for male characters.

Yeah, I can deal with no /e type thing. It's kinda meh, but hey. Asterisks work just fine I suppose. The 160 character limit is also quite painful, especially if you like to play those long-winded flowery speech type characters, but I can deal with that as well. Walk animation isn't that bad, truthfully.

The major issue, for me, is still Firran clipping issues with two handed weapons. So long as that persists, I cannot play a Firran with a two-hander. It'd drive me absolutely insane. Which leaves me with only dual-wield, shield/1hander. magic, or pure archery for Firran.

... that's a fair amount of options, one of which I currently use for Verus, however I STILL don't get my damn two handed spear. Harani don't seem to have any of these bizarre clipping issues with weapons, thankfully, so that's fair.

One way that I get 'around' (for lack of a better term) the 160 character limit is to use an old chat forum notation I learned WAY back when. Putting <c> at the end to notate a 'continue'. It is slightly annoying but if they do decide to keep the short limit this notation can help your character not get interrupted because someone thought your post was done. Just a suggestion. Hopefully they expand the character limit to something more RPer friendly!

What clipping issues are you experiencing? I played a 2 hander wielding Firran during Beta for a short time and didn't notice anything so outrageous it would turn me off the entire race. But I bet you 10 to 1 that once you point out exactly what it is I'll not be able to take my eyes off it.... hehe

Another negative as of now is wardrobe options! I would love to see a wardrobe system where I can equip certain items for appearance but still have my gear stats. Ya I know you can transmute and all but please Trion and XL make my life a little easier :P

In the rare chance anyone from Trion is actually reading this, please only add this after you've fixed archeum!

I thought you could already do that? Change the appearance of gear?

I think it's an upcoming feature. Or is it already implemented?

You can transmute gear - change appearance but keep stats, yes this is already implemented. But I want a system that is similar to Rift or SWG where you did not have to transmute, just equip a second set and toggle which set would appear on your character.

Yeah this is one of the better additions guild wars 2 added recently and imo all games should add a version(no doubt xl games version is delayed coz it requires a trillion labor to open the wardrobe doors lol).
