Oh hi there! I didn't see you come in. You know, people are often coming up to... no wait, that's a terrible introduction. Let's start over.
Ohai! I'm Issmir. I'm a Londoner who lives and works in New Jersey with his wife and loves gaming and RP. I played SWG for 7 years, where I ran 5 cities (not all at the same time) and The Unbound, an RP criminal organization of breathtaking incompetence. We spent most of that time on Sunrunner server, where we ran pretty successful space gladiatorial games for paying spectators on board a luxury pleasure yacht. Like this one.
We also ran a casino where people queued up to throw money at us while they played casino dice games and a smuggler's bar. We had a blast and I made friends that have remained close since.
But all things end, and eventually SWG closed its doors. I've played a lot of MMOs since then, from Champions Online (where I ran the Legion of Laughter, the clown crimefighting group) to APB (The Unbound) to Guild Wars 2 (the Order of the Fool)but none of them felt as supportive of RP as SWG. And then I heard about Archeage and my interest was immediately piqued.
I've only been playing for a handful of days. I love the complexity and depth of Archeage. I love the wide open nature of it and how much freedom we're given. My hope is to find a place to play the kinds of characters I love to play.
I should probably mention what kinds of characters those are. I seem drawn to... well.. monsters, really. Or at least people with a sense of morality that has more flexibility than an olympic gymnast. I enjoy playing smugglers, mercenaries and thugs. I don't enjoy making supervillains (none of this "nope! I'm too powerful and unstoppable! MWAHAHAHAHA!" but possibly people who are deluded enough to think of themselves as master criminals. Anywhere from Malcolm Reynolds to Nishka. But definitely more Bossk than Han Solo.
That being said, I also like playing a merchant. For my first two years in SWG I played a tailor and didn't do any combat at all. Just ran a bespoke clothing service and got involved with the day to day of trying to keep the city going.
So yes. A little rambly, but hi. I'm Issmir. and I'm glad to meet you.
Love the reference! I imagined my character as a mix between Kaley and Mal, with a bit of Jane's spunkiness.... I eventually would love to get a ship and pirate/terrorize the Westerners on the seas =) Sounds like our characters could have a good time together =)
